REQUIREMENTS to ATTEND CLASS

  • Your dog needs to be on a leash with a buckle collar. We like 6′ leads. No choke/pinch collars.
  • A crate is needed as all dogs will be kept in a crate while not performing. The easiest to transport is soft crates. Hard or wire crates are acceptable. Yes, a crate is a MUST. Have an instructor give you some tips on crate games. In no time, your dog will LOVE his crate!
  • Rewards are a must! Soft treats (preferably not crumbly) and a toy to reward your dog for a job well done. Bring a hungry dog to the field, much easier to train than one with a full belly.
  • Don’t forget water for your dog and yourself.
  • A copy of your dog’s updated shot records for us to keep. We’ve added Bordetella to our required list of vaccinations: Distemper, Parvovirus, Hepatitis. Good to have, but not required, is Leptospirosis. If a vaccine is going to expire soon please schedule an appointment with your Veterinarian. Please make sure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date. Bordetella (Kennel Cough) MUST BE up to date for your dog to be in class.

  • Instructor: Les/8-10 Teams

  • Details

This class is intended for students with new dogs that have not started to train on the A-frame and Dogwalk equipment, and not necessarily for re-training a dog that has been taught previously. Each equipment offers unique challenges to the dog’s understanding. We will start with basic foundation exercises to build understanding of the performance criteria; these foundation exercises can be performed without the actual contact equipment and should be worked on between classes. Bring pen and writing tablet or a recording device to take notes and homework assignments. Contact training is progressive and each intermediate exercise is necessary to building the complete behavior. Missed classes and homework exercises will be detrimental to your dog’s understanding and confidence. Homework exercises will be assigned for each class session that should be practiced at least 2-3 times a week, if not daily. The goal at the end of the session is that your dog understands the performance behavior and will safely and confidently complete the performance.
