Alan Arthur of Leander, Texas has been involved in the sport of dogs for nearly 40 years.
Alan has exhibited and bred Scottish Deerhounds since 1976. He is a former President and AKC Delegate for the Scottish Deerhound Club of America. As an owner-handler, he was in the top 10 in his breed in conformation for 15 consecutive years with numerous Group wins and one All-Breed Best in Show. After a Whippet was added to his household in the 1980’s, he also exhibited and bred many excellent Whippets, one of which is a multi-Best in Specialty Show winner. He and his wife, Liz, have bred 25 AKC Champions and are recognized as AKC Breeders of Merit.
Alan discovered agility as a way to improve the confidence of a Whippet that was spooked on the examination table at a conformation show. He found that he loved agility competition as much as he loved conformation, and after many happy and rewarding years as an agility exhibitor, he decided to apply for approval to judge AKC Agility. Alan has found that judging AKC Agility is fun, rewarding, and challenging and has enjoyed every minute of his time as a judge.
Alan was honored to judge the AKC Eukanuba Agility Invitational in 2012, the AKC National Agility Championship in 2014, and The Westminster Kennel Club’s 2nd Annual Masters Agility Championship.
Away from Agility, Alan judges Borzois, Greyhounds, Irish Wolfhounds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Salukis, Scottish Deerhounds and Whippets in AKC Conformation. He and Liz, who is also an AKC Conformation judge, are enjoying their retirement with their Whippets and an Italian Greyhound
